Since the COVID crisis, the world has changed and our clothes have adapted. While yesterday diesel vehicles accounted for for the largest share of sales for manufacturers, the trend now seems to be reverseing. Electric vehicles are on the rise: their dirty taken off, and continue their damp climbs. How can we explain such success? Let’s decipher the market together.
1/ A developing market
Contrary to popular belief, the electric car is not a recent invention. The first electric vehicle dates back to 1832 and, until the 1920s, the electric motor will be a standard, proudcely competitive with steam engines and then the gasoline engines that will crush these two technologies. Electric power will only make a few timid returns to the market, not least in the 1940s and the 1970s, before returning to the fore from the 1990s. Arti Mimpi Hamil
At the end of the 2000s, in 2008, President Nicolas Sarkozy will have in place various measures to reduce CO2 emissions from the French car fleet. Among them will be the eco-tax. By tying the French portfolio, the state hopes that they will move towards a carbon-neutral solution. However, while this measure has indeed marketed, the plug-in electric and hybrid car has never been successful as it is today.
2/ Electrical, effect or real craze mode
In addition to the ecological bonus scale/malus, the price of booming fossil fuels, as well as the end of new thermal vehicles announced by the European Parliament at 2035, probably an impact on the boost of sales on this type of vehicle.
At the same time, the electric car has made great progress, and at all levels. The range and charging time, which were the big black spots of electric vehicles of 10 years ago, have improved. For example, the Renault is now able to travel more than 350 km in a single recharging, the old model not exceeding 150 to 200 km of range.
In addition, the electric car has become more aware. Electric power has recently landed in the low-cost, thanks to the promising Dacia Spring or the innovative Citroen Ami. At the premium level, Tesla has now established itself as the world reference, while innovative concept cars are born, whether as the Mercedes EQXX, the first electric vehicle to reach 1000 km without charging.
3/ The future begins today
The electric car is innovating. The gap between electricity and thermal is narrowed. Back, while this dealt with battery-powered electric vehicles instead, let us not forget hydrogen electric vehicles. Because, if the electric car solves many environmental problems, it also raises new problems, such as the environmental impact of its energy supply, or its manufacturing and recycling, which is more energy-intensive. The hydrogen electric car has the great advantage of using fuel cells, rather than batteries. Will it be the solution for the future?
